The Northern California region has a long-standing history with the United Nations. In 1945, the region was the birthplace of the UN when the Charter was signed in the heart of San Francisco. Our region has a reputation for being socially aware and globally active. Northern California is home to some of the most active NGOs and corporations in the world. With such cutting edge developments in a region that sets the trend for the rest of the world, the UNA NorCal serves to provide the public with information and activities surrounding the United Nations and global affairs. With 11 chapters, UNA NorCal spans over half the state: from Sacramento to San Francisco and Sonoma to Santa Cruz, the UNA has a powerful presence in the West Coast enclave of progress and global awareness.
The UNA-USA carries out its mission in a nationwide network of 125 chapters and divisions. The Northern California Division encompasses 12 chapters and about 1500 members in cities from Sonoma to Monterey, San Francisco to Sacramento. Each chapter implements programs throughout the year: educational and awareness-raising activities about global issues; outreach to youth and schools including support of Model UN's. Chapters also advocate with elected officials and the public to strengthen US-UN relations and increase support for a more effective United Nations.
